I was never really much of a morning person. I liked to stay up late, and sleep in. Having a child changed that. For the first time in my life I took naps. I also tried to sleep whenever my kid was asleep. After all, if I didn’t sleep when he slept, I might not have gotten any at all. Fortunately, that didn’t last forever, but he was a morning person. For about 9 years, I was a reluctant morning person. The benefit was that I was awake to witness sunrise, and when you have a view of Mount Evans, it can be pretty spectacular.

I wanted to photograph Mount Evans in every type of weather, even if that meant the mountain wasn’t actually visible. Sometimes the mountain would be visible and then obscured, as weather conditions changed throughout the day. On this particular day, April 30, 2011, Mount Evans was visible earlier in the day, but was obscured by clouds and storms later.
